Arthrosis treatment

Treating joints with biological therapy

Arthrosis is a degenerative disease of the joints, which cannot be completely cured – this does not mean, however, that there are no ways to slow down the disease.

What does Orthokine® therapy involve?

  • Blood is taken from the patient and stored in an incubator (at 37 °C), where the synthesis of protective proteins takes place.
  • Serum with protective proteins is separated from the blood clot.
  • Serum with proteins is injected into the affected joint of the patient.

Treating joints with biological therapy

Arthrosis is a degenerative disease of the joints, which cannot be completely cured – this does not mean, however, that there are no ways to slow down the disease. Treatment of arthrosis consists primarily of an active lifestyle and a healthy diet rich in omega-3 acids, protein and vitamin D. Taking glucosamine supplements may also slow the progression of the disease, but in advanced arthrosis only biological therapy may be effective.

Causes of arthrosis

The causes of the condition include genetic predisposition, overweight, overwork and too intensive physical exercise. Arthrosis severely limits the human motor functions by causing structural changes in the joint and damage to the articular cartilage. There is hardening of bones in the subchondral layer, and appearance of subchondral cysts and osteophytes as well as occurrence of synovium dysfunction is also possible. Almost half of Poles aged 30+ suffer from initial degenerative joint changes. Among older people, this number is much larger.

Symptoms and the course of the disease

Arthrosis usually involves the hip and knee joint. The patient in the initial stage of the disease may not show any symptoms. The first signal is usually general fatigue of the body and fatigue of the limbs. Arthritis is then manifested during physical exertion. In the next stage flexion contractures appear, and the pain accompanies the patient also during the night hours. The affected joint is enlarged and distorted. Development of disease research shows that arthrosis can affect anybody. The aggressive joint affecting protein mediator interleukin-1 (IL-1), which can be eliminated during biological therapy, contributes significantly to the development of the disease.

Effective treatment of the disease

The most effective treatment methods include Orthokine® therapy – one of the most modern biological therapies that help eliminating back pain and joint degeneration. Innovative biological therapies are distinguished by safety for the Patient, low invasiveness and high efficiency. Modern therapies make it possible to inhibit or stop the disease process. Orthokine® therapy is available at the Wasz Ortopeda orthopedic clinic in Szczecin at the address: ul. Wyszyńskiego 1e/U1. Patients of all genders, ages and stages of arthrosis may benefit from the therapy.

What does Orthokine® therapy involve?

Orthokine® biological therapy consists of several stages:

  1. Blood is taken from the patient and stored in an incubator (at 37 °C), where the synthesis of protective proteins takes place.
  2. Serum with protective proteins is separated from the blood clot.
  3. Serum with proteins is injected into the affected joint of the patient.

The procedure is repeated 1-3 times a week.

Orthokine® therapy is based on the use of the patient’s own blood, and thanks to the fact that proteins do not contain any foreign substances, it is a safe method that does not cause allergic reactions. The body’s response to the injection is to restore the balance in the area affected by the inflammatory process, which can be seen by inhibiting or stopping the inflammation and by alleviation or elimination of pain. Orthokine® is a therapy used since 1998, developed by scientists from Germany.

Versatile therapy for joint diseases

Biological therapies, such as Orthokine®, significantly increase the quality of life of a person suffering from joint degeneration. Arthrosis can involve the spine and other joints, such as the hip, knee or upper limb joints – Orthokine® therapy is effective in each of these cases. At the Wasz Ortopeda clinic in Szczecin, we also treat chondromalacia of the articular cartilage. The offer of our orthopedic clinic also includes injecting hyaluronic acid into the knee joints – this method ensures effects lasting 1-2 years. Treatment with hyaluronic acid involves the use of a modern product called RenehaVis containing 1,4 ml of sodium hyaluronate. Injection of RenehaVis into the knee joint is designed to supplement the naturally occurring sodium hyaluronan, which helps relieve the pain associated with progressive osteoarthritis of the knee.

Do not forget about the right diet!

One of the primary causes of the occurrence of osteoarthritis is overweight leading to obesity. The joints of obese people (especially knee and hip) are constantly exposed to loads, which directly leads to degeneration. Arthrosis treatment is based largely on changing eating habits and introduction of a healthy and balanced diet. People who are overweight should take the advice of a nutritionist who will arrange a diet plan tailored to the needs of the patient. The diet of patients with arthrosis should be rich in omega-3, vitamin D and protein. It is also important to limit the consumption of carbonated beverages, salt, fried dishes, fast-foods, ready meals, alcohol and cigarettes. In addition, you cannot forget about regular physical activity.
